Everything you need to know about Imago CEUs / Clinical Credits
Please refer to Procedure 8.5 for full details of Imago Relationships International CEU policy
How many Imago CEUs do I need?
If you were Certified before Jan 2007, you do not need any Imago CEUs. However if you do earn 15 every two-years we will highlight you in our membership directory.
If you joined a Certification course after 1 Jan 2007, then 15 CEUs every two years are required to maintain Certification. We will start recording your CEUs from the date you Certify.
What do I need to do to obtain Imago CEUs?
Our Imago CEUs are awarded as widely as we can manage them for involvement with Imago consultation and continuing education. The limits are determined by our current ability to administer the CEU system in a way in which we can also ensure qualifying acitivites meet a high standard. This means that for the moment there are many excellent trainings provided by people in the Imago community which currently do not earn Imago CEUs.
Some of these activities are not continuing education, and therefore earn Clinical Credits which are equivalent in value to CEUs
Those activities which currently do are detailed in our procedures but include:
- Assisting at an Imago Workshop - (7 Credits)
- Consultation with a certified consultant or Clinical Instructor, individually or in a group - (1 credit per hour)
- Sending in a clinical tape to IRI for review and feedback (8 credits)
- Imago approved continuing education - including the annual conference - (1 per hour - usually over 10 for the conference)
- Imago teleclasses - (Typically 4 CEUs)
- Assisting at a training - (30 credits for the full 96 hours)
Please refer to our procedure 8.5 for full details of how many CEUs are awarded for each activity
How do I ensure my CEUs are registered with IRI?
Whenever you have completed an activity which earns Imago CEUs please send an email with information about the activity and the number of CEUS claimed to Betty Williams at training@imagorelationships.org. She will enter it into the database. This is required for consultation, and assisting. If you have registered with IRI for a teleclass, workshop or the conference we will automatically track these CEUs.
How do I know how many CEUs you have on-file for me?
Please visit your member dashboard at http://gettingtheloveyouwant.com/dashboard/login.php If you have forgotten your password, simply enter your email address and click below to have your password sent to you immediately. In the dashboard you will find a section which provides your Imago CEU record.
PLEASE NOTE: We are starting CEU records from Jan 1, 2007, and will not begin to look at how many were completed in two-years until 2009
How can I get CEUs that I can use towards my licensure requirements?
Many Imago programs award APA CEUs. Our Annual Conference also awards CEUs for a wide variety of other professional organizations. Our experience is that most professional organizations will accept APA CEUs, please check with yours, or contact Betty Williams for assistance.
How will you monitor CEUs?
Initially we will rely on you to make a declaration on your membership renewal that you intend to earn 15 CEUs in every two-year period. We will record your CEUs, either through the courses that you take - or the activities that you report to us. As time goes on we will cross-check your declared intention, with the CEUs we have on record for you, and contact you to dialogue if there seems to be a big gap.
Why Imago CEUs?
Over the years successful Imago therapists have told us that for them Imago is not just a training or a skill, it is more like a journey of deepening. The journey appears to be most successful when the therapist is in relationship with the faculty, consultants or others in the Imago community.
For new therapists who started training in 2007 or after, we have created a new training model which reflects this journey. The Training includes a period of consultation prior to certification, and then a requirement to have an ongoing relationship with the Institute and their associates, in oder to maintain certification. Awarding CEUs is a way to keep track of this relationship and ensure that a minimum of 7.5 hours of contact (or equivalent) on average every year.
We also want to recognize and acknowledge other Imago therapists who are in an ongoing clinical relationship with the Institute and associates. Therefore therapists who meet this minimum of 7.5 hours average each year are highlighted in the directory.
Who asked for Imago CEUs?
The catalyst for introducing Imago CEUs came from therapists in the community who complained about our current referral system. They had found that when they referred clients to Imago Therapists, some of them came back extremely disappointed that they were not coached in dialogue by the therapist. Many Imago Therapists were certified 10 to 15 years ago, and have had little contact with the Institute since then, and may use only a little Imago in their work. However through their Certification contracts we are still obliged to list them as Imago therapists, even though they may not offer Imago therapy to their clients.
We hope that the Imago CEUs will help us to make our referral website and directory more useful to the therapists and clients who use it, by highlighting those who are in an ongoing relationship with the Institute and are actively engaged in developing their skills in Imago therapy.
I don't like this new CEU system - why wasn't I consulted?
This new CEU systems was developed after extensive consultation, including with representatives from each global region. It was proposed through committees which are made up of members of the community. In the fall of 2007 we also ran a Virtual Town-Hall dialogue process (see procedure 5.5) to gather more community input.
How can I get approved to offer Imago CEUs for my training course or consultation?
If you are offering an Imago training, and wish to offer Imago CEUs to attendees, we have set up an application process. Because of the time involved to operate this process, we do need to charge a fee for these CEUs.
- Certified Imago Clinical Instructors may offer Imago CEUs for all Imago trainings they offer, and this is included in the fees they pay to IRI
- Certified Imago Consultants may offer Imago CEUs for consultation only. There are no additional fees payable to register these programs for Imago CEUs
- Certified Imago Advanced Clinicians, or Certified Imago Consultants may apply to offer CEUs for a training:
- To qualify, the training must be primarily based on Imago clinical practice
- The training should include some specific expertise or experience, which would extend the teaching beyond the core imago work. Typical examples would be specialist knowledge on sex, addictions, parenting, in-depth theoretical knowledge which applies to imago practice, or gender issues.
- An application is required for each training you hold
- To apply please send a letter to Betty Williams ( training@imagorelationships.org ) including the following information:
- Description of training
- Number of hours
- Outline agenda, including how many hours are for each of didactic/lecture, group discussion, clinical demonstration.
- Date of training
- Your qualifications and specialist experience related to presenting this training
- Number of people expected
- The application should be received at least 6 weeks prior to the proposed training.
- The fee payable to IRI to cover our processing is $5 per person for each training, with a $50 minimum fee per application. The $50 fee is required with the application, prior to processing. Any additional fees will be payable before CEUs are awarded. You can pay by credit card by calling Betty Williams, or mail a check marked “Imago CEUs” to Imago Relationships International, 160 Broadway, Suite 1001, East Building, New York, NY, 10038. (Please note that this is intended to cover the actual cost of addition staff time required to administer this process, and is not expected to be a profitable to IRI. For regional groups, you may submit one application with a $50 fee to cover a bundle of several trainings by different presenters. This would enable you to cover an entire season for a single $50 application fee)
- The application will be submitted to the Professional Training and Standards Committee for approval, and we will endeavor to provide this within 4 to 6 weeks.
- If they do not accept your application we will provide a short note explaining why it does not meet the criteria. You may either re-apply, addressing the reasons we give for not accepting the application, or ask for a refund of 50% of the application fee.
